The rat race begins early.

The nursery admission process takes a toll on hapless parents and their little darlings. The competition is so brutal that parents will do anything to get one up on others. Take a look!

As if that were not enough…

Little Pappu unplugged in his nursery admission interview.

The schools do their bit for greater transparency in the admission process.

No pull, really?

Is there a way out of this premature rat race?

I would love to hear your views on this matter, so please do write in!

You gotta laugh at yourself.

The post this week looks at the art of laughing at oneself. It all started with the last cartoon in my previous post ‘Can’t you feel the love tonight’. The lady artist presenting a ‘self portrait’ as a gift received an overwhelming response. Inspired, here’s a whole feature on my experiences as an artist. The legendary R.K.Laxman says it best in his cartoon above.

This ingenious child I encountered in my time as an art teacher stays in my memory and brings out a smile.

Exhibiting your work in an art exhibition is a different ball game altogether. You never know what captures the eye of the art connoisseur.

Sometimes the most unlikely works may become masterpieces. But then, they meet the end they deserve.

I, unlike this old man, have no illusions about my talents as an artist

I conclude where I started this post from. A self-obsessed artist!

If any of these characters bear any resemblance to anyone dead or living, it is completely unintentional and coincidental.

Can’t you feel the love tonight?

February is the month of romance and Valentine’s day makes an appearance once again. A day for roses, chocolates and Hallmark cards. A day to wear your heart on your sleeve. A day to burn cash on gifts for your beloved.

This post offers a glimpse of how different people react to the Valentine Day and the demands it makes on you and your credit card!

St. Valentine would have chuckled at this molecular scientist who is certainly in his element(s).

Wining and dining your beloved comes for a price, much to this gentleman’s dismay.

Fun fact: The etymology of the phrase ‘being in the red’ dates back to the times when accounts were kept by accountants in ledgers manually, income being recorded in black ink and expenses in red ink.

Unlike the unfortunate gentleman we just saw, some of us are smarter.

Start the celebrations off on an auspicious note, like this lovely couple.

And lastly, the lady declares her love……

Let it not be said that we artists do not laugh at ourselves….

In a lighter vein…

Bills and the Boards.

With the temperatures slowly rising, the heat is on, for some more than others. The budget session will be swinging into action soon, and so will our parliamentarians.

Some use these sessions fruitfully. You may nail it down to their profession.

Some would go to any lengths to disrupt the session, never mind the ensuing bill.

All in all, one hopes that the various parties deliver the goods.

The dreaded Board examinations are looming and the students are gearing up for it. My twelfth grader almost dropped out of school just before his Boards.

Facing the problem of career choices , the schools tried every trick in their book.

After many rounds of career counseling, one thought things would sort out. But…

Some of us take forever to decide on a career while there are those who keep at it. Age no bar.

Funny side up…….

The odd/even experiment in Delhi.

There were varied reactions to the recently concluded odd/even experiment conducted in Delhi. The effect it had on lowering the pollution levels may be debated upon but it certainly provided a lot of material for satirists and cartoonists to comment on.

Here are some of the observations of how it affected people during that period.

Little Pappu got the better of his fuming math teacher……

Or the desperate father who thinks nothing of stealing his son’s scooty.
Oh and the cruel bus conductor….
